The Inquisition stopped the Muslims from taking over Spain. From spain they would work their way through Europe. In the Eastern Churches the muslims were coming through the "back door" to the west. So if it weren't for the Inquistion you would be praying to Alah, reading an arabic Koran, and probably living under a dictatorship. Oh yes and the thing Shia Law.

The inquisition was all about making people be Christians as defined by Torquemada. Muslim, Jew, Christian and non-believer where all swept up in this Church sponsored bit of terrorism. Ferdinand and Isabella were a much bigger block to the advance of Islam. The Inquisition did nothing but create hatred of the Church.

Before going to bed tonight, read Nathan the Wise, a play by Friedrich Schiller. This will give you something to think about and nightmares until the new year.

Sounds to me like that's not really a question you have. I'm not for living under Shia or Shiite law, but I am not sure that the inquisition was the only thing that prevented the spread of Islam to Europe. It's possible that Islam would have been stopped anyway.

And...........if we were living under Shia law now, in this day due to no Inquisition, we wouldn't know any better and would think that Islam was the only true way to go. So, it wouldn't bother us at all.

I assume you mean the Spanish inquisition, not the protestant one.

Well, it stopped the kings ( and this applies in general to other Catholic countries ) from using religion as a excuse to execute their political enemies, which was the basic cause for the creation of the inquisition.

Also, it stopped many movements that were moving across europe that were very dangerous to society. Some of them included human sacrifices

Here's my view: anytime you portray yourself as a christian (i.e. the inquisitors) and act like devils...nothing good comes from it. Don't you think that if the inquisitors had acted Christ-like with love and understanding the blessing and protection of the Almighty would have led to a better result that what history shows?
