over something that doesn't even have to do with looks. Like, they'll say something about you being ugly, or fat, or w.e.

sexyanthony22 - Oh, I'm not fat or anything. I was just using fat as an example. I just notice a lot that people will say like "just shut up you fat bi*ch" or something like that to people.

People who resort to name calling in an adult areguement or disagreement is juvenile, it shows their lack of education and how small minded and iggnorant they are.
I feel pity for these people.
It's sad that that cant be normal adults and have to act llike children to make themselves think they have a point when sadly they need to cut people down to their level to feel normal
At least you are smart enough to see the difference
Kudos to you

Yes I could imagine it would be hurtful. But the only reason why people do that is to really hurt you! People say hurtful things to others sometimes, even you! But they say stuff about your appearance because they know you have a low self-esteem! Take me for example. I have never been in an argument about something and someone insult me about how i look! This is because i have very high self-steem, and i keep that attitude and carry it all day. I walk like, talk like it, and act like it. Hell, really I can't be knocked off my high horse! But you don't want to act like your better than everybody else, just think it! If you aren't happy w/your appearance then workout little! Do whatever it takes for you to be happy with yourself, because if your not happy with you, then you won't be happy with someone else, and especially alone! It will only cause depression and you don't want to go there! Trust me depression (whatever the reason) is hell, and it's a real confusing situation! So I hope this helps you! Happy Holidays!

Are you talking about a girlfriend/boyfriend argument here? because if you are then I would seriously consider geting a new partner!
If however you are talking about any 2 people then it is obvious that the person giving the insult is way immature and can not intelligently offer differing opinions, as you know we are all entitled to our own opinions and should be able to voice them without fear of recriminations or abuse from others but unfortunately life is a bit more complicated than that!I personally believe that arguing is a waste of time and energy and I tend to keep away from argumentative people...
By the way how old are the 2 people arguing, that you are talking about? the insult bit is something I would expect children to do!

When someone insults your looks, weight, etc. in an argument, it generally means you have said something that has hurt or angered them and their first instinct is to retaliate by hurting you. It can also mean that they feel they feel they are losing the argument and by saying something hurtful to you, they will put you on the defensive and in that way divert you from your original point. Intelligent argument should never include name-calling or the intention of hurting the other party. Try to remain calm and keep to facts.

No, I do not get angry because when someone starts changing the subject it means they know they are wrong in their argument but doesn't have the guts to admit it. So they continue the argument on a tangent. You should take that as you winning the argument and not get upset.
