what ways can people have power/control over you? How can you prevent power struggles from errupting?

You don't let them have power or control over you. You refuse to get involved in the struggle. They will have to find someone else to play this game with.

Avoid power struggles? Don't desire anything. Join some eastern philosophy cult that makes you into a mindless zombie that sees the 'simple beauty in not wanting anything.'

But then you'll get real and realize that one day you're going to want something, and someone won't want you to have it.

toss them out. Theres some jackass thats gonna try to get power over you. They'll do all kinds of things to get a response, its a game to them. If they really had some kind of issue they would come directly to you. People have nothin better to do than play games.

People will only have power &/or controll over you only if you give it to them. It is not something you can take. Realize this and you problem is solved.
