I'm in the exact same boat, and I don't know which end is up. The child care is outrageous, and nobody wants to help all the time. I can't save if I wanted to. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe both sexes are being pitted against one another? What caused him to leave you? Was it financial stress perhaps? Tell the whole story, but be truthful. Has he been in trouble with the law? Was he just a fling for you. I'm sorry, i can't find any sympathy nor good answer for your situation until ALL facts are presented. it sounds like you live for the now the way you have explained it. And that you could save money if you got child support. No.1 child support is just that, ONLY for the child(ren). Not you. Something tells me that even with it, you would still be in the same predicament you're in now. I'm not against you, but more than just one side to this story would be nice. What's your utilities run you a month, car payment? House payment(Whether fixed or adjustable)? Groceries? Kids school, clothing and lunches? Cable?(Which company and how much) Phone(Which companyand how much)? Credit cards? Signature loans? How long have you been divorced? Were all assets equally divided between you and him? Your job? How much you make an hour, week and/or month? What is your supposed child support amount you are supposed to receive per month? How much would childcare(where you live on average) cost you?(i.e babysitter) A list of other miscellaneous expenses not asked? Health care insurance?Life insurance?Accidental death and dismemberment insurance?. On your W-4s and state tax paperwork, are you claiming all three of you? How much are you paying in taxes per pay period? Your property taxes? House and vehicle insurance? If you can't answer all of these questions. i doubt very seriously anyone can truly help you.

If i seem to come off as a smarta** that's not my aim. i just don't see how anyone could truly help you without all the facts.

Dizzkat's advice(though general) is very good advice.

Sorry.

What I have done:
Make a list of bills going out. Cut out any unnecessary ones- cable, cell phone or house phone- you only need one, internet, newspapers or magazines, health clubs for example.
Look at the necessary ones you have left. Where can you cut back? Electric- make sure you don't leave lights on, unplug unnecessary electric items, if you have electric heat turn down the thermostat and wear a sweater. Same for gas.
Rent or mortgage is pretty set. Shop around for lower insurance rates for car and renters or mortgage insurance.
Food bills are great places to save! NO eating out. Shop the sales and at food warehouses such as Aldi's. Clip coupons but only for stuff you use.
Second hand stores are great for clothing items especially for kids. It takes time to go through the items but you can get some good deals.
I bet there are other people who want eveing jobs but have no one to watch their kids. Try starting a sitter service in the evenings where people pay YOU to watch their kids in the evening.
And try to save even if it is $5.00 a week. That's $260.00 at the end of a year, $1300.00 at the end of 5 years. Once you start saving, even if it's a little bit, you feel good about it and try to add to it a few bucks at a time.
Put your coins in a jar ever day. Once a week take them to the bank and add them to the savings. If you find a penny, pick it up and add it to the jar. My father in law found $82.00 in change one year just from picking up coins he found on the ground!
I hope this helps, and I hope that child support comes through soon!!!!!

First you need to go to the police about how you are not receiving child support and that is promised to you. If its court ordered they have to pay. Put a little money aside each pay check. What kind of job do you work? I work as a waitress so that i have money in my pocket at all times. Well i hope this helps! Good luck, Merry Christmas, and im praying for you!

I did that for years and years and it was awful. I ended up enrolling in university courses and took classes while the kids were in school. I worked all the time too and it was bloody difficult. But now I make more than twice what I would be otherwise. There's financial aid available, especially for people who are raising kids at the same time. If you don't do something drastic things will only change minimally for you and your kids over the next few years.

Your going to have to get some help for a few years at least. Maybe lower cost child care. Help with the kids lunches. I don't know what you are or if your getting right now. But, I'll tell you this. I admire you. Your doing it, your keeping your family together, and thats whats important. It sucks that some men go off and leave all the financial and care to the mother, but theres a special place for you. The first 2 answers really piss me off because they don't have a clue what its like. I watched my sister struggle for years with her kids. (no child support) he left the country to avoid it. Nobody cares about mothers who are struggling. They just say: go get on welfare. Good luck. I hope you find your way.

You are in a tough financial situation, and I'm sorry! I wish I could offer you more advice!

Just do your best to put away ANY amount of money each week or month you can! I know it's hard when you have to spend your check on bills and stuff, but even small amounts add up.

First I think it is important to get the child support so you and your kids can have the money you guys deserve. Next, start budgeting and make a savings account.

Read books at the library about making your food (and other) dollars stretch. "The Complete Tightwad Gazette" is a good example.

I used to buy easy to prepare meals and if I liked it, I'd figure out how to fix it myself for less.

You can also buy beans, oatmeal, etc in bulk or from stores with bulk bins for less than the stuff in a box.

The less prepared foods you make yourself are cheaper and healthier.
