I'm looking to get rid of some of my stuff on e-bay. I've never sold anything before through an auction. So I was wanting to know: What's a good price to re-sell an item from its original price (or retail price)?

Let's say, for example, I bought a $40 sweater awhile back but wanted to sell it on e-bay. What would be a good price to re-sell it? At what percent of its original price should it be sold for on ebay? I don't want to sell it for too low because I don't want to lose money, but I also don't want to sell it for too high because I don't want people to not buy it.

I wouldn't sell it for more than you would sell it for at a garage sale. I don't shop on ebay for clothes, etc, and if I happened to come across a sweater that I liked for 1/4 or less of what it actually cost, then I would buy it maybe.

you are selling your old crap...crap is not an investment. don't expect too much out of it.

ideally, if you're selling a brand new item you should only sell it for slightly lower than its market retail price, because the buyer still has to consider the additional shipping costs (unless you're throwing in free shipping).

If the item has been used even once, then sell it for only 75% of its original price or lower, depending on the item's current condition.

Now, if you're trying to sell a rare item (antique, collectible, etc.), that's a completely different story. Otherwise, most if not all eBay buyers (myself included) are looking for real bargains and steals, and if they can get something online for half the price as compared to getting it from a store, they most definitely will.

For example, I just bought a camera last month that normally retails for $199, but I was able to get it brand new for $136.

People who shop on ebay are looking for a deal and are pretty cheap.. I tried selling clothes and could only get about .99 to 5 dollars for each item...
