The quick answer?

Everybody's different.
Everything in moderation.

Edit: If you schedule a child's every action, they'll be anal-retentive and lose composure when something comes up that isn't planned. If you be too loose when you raise them and never prepare them for scheduled things, no matter what they might be, they might never learn to cope with things that MUST be done on a strict schedule.

Of course it's a great idea to play with them and, *definitely*, to have conversations with them (as it really, really helps with all sorts of social skills) but if you do only this, they might not know how to handle you when you go to punish them.

Society doesn't always know what's right.
They just always think they do, the majority of 'them'.

(Didn't have enough time to elaborate for the original posting, sorry.)
Hope that helps.

Smother?

No. You shouldn't smother your child with love.

You should love your child, and help them learn how to live in this world, as their age allows. Don't let them get away with bad behavior.

Yes, you should play with them and talk to them, and listen to what they have to say.

You should potty train them when they are ready (which varies from child to child).

No one in their right mind thinks you shouldn't love your child at all.

But your question is silly. Do you think those extremes are the only options?

They learn from what you do so playing with them and having conversations with them is a very good thing. Children need love to be able to learn love. That doesn't mean you don't set limits with children, but being really strict I think would cause much more problems than bending some.

Your visible stupidity and trolling apart. No, correctly atheist moms will have to love their youngsters extra then Christians. After all why will you want youngsters while you're in heaven? Is everlasting bliss extra happy when you spend it with one or 2 extra humans. But while atheist die the ONLY factor left to recollect them by way of is their youngsters. Those youngsters are their legacy, their the whole thing. The most effective evidence that lots of them existed will likely be of their kid's minds and eyes and reminiscences. Clearly this implies they are going to love and treasure their youngsters extra proper?
