We are going to texas from ca.. coach. It will take two days. Can anyone tell me of the comfort level, suggestions what to take on board, what to expect overall? Thanks!

The dining car is expensive, but it is fun to eat there at least a couple of times. They usually come thru and announce the different times and have several seating times for each meal. Food prob. varies on diff trains, but i found it to be fine. They also come through and sell snacks from time to time. The trains now also have a lounge or obsevation car where you can go and sit comfortably for a while, have more freedom to move about, and they usually show movies. It will be an adventure. Enjoy your trip.

Get a sleeper car if possible.

If not, the seats are pretty comfortable. Bring your own food/drinks, as the food provided is awful and the lines are long.

i know a friend who rode from wa. state to texas and colorado. she seemed to think it was fine. on any train ride it is definitely a good idea to bring your own snacks/food and something to do (ie. games, books, etc.). maybe a small pillow and something to cuddle up in.
