I guess it all depends on what the watch will be used for.
If it is for everyday use, Timex is a good brand and can be bought virtually anywhere.
if it is a dress watch, you should consider a place such as Macy's or JC Penny's.
If it is to be an expensive watch like a Rolex, a jeweler is your best bet.

Just walk around the city streets someone will offer to sell you a watch eventually. Or get a job at a strip club and get a "John" to give you a watch for a "favor."

Depends on what kind of watch you want to get him. If you want an inexpensive one you could go to a Kmart, Shopko, or Walmart. But if you want to get a nice one I would recommend going to a Jc Penney as they have nice Relic, Seiko, Citizen, Bulova, and more. Or if you don't have a Jc Penney you could go to any fine jewelry store that you have in town.

Go to Overstock.com. That's where I found my boyfriend's Citizen watch. I got it for $200 less than retail.

Fossil. They're nice, but chic and modern at the same time.
Or you could spring for something really expensive and get one from Tiffany's (:
