Because the second we grow up enough to realize what this world is made of, we want to test it out. So, the majority of teens will go from pure innocence to destructive. I speak as a teenager, whose peers have supported my theory.
It's rare to find a teen who really just wants to help someone out or get something done. Too many of us go off thinking that we're "living life to the fullest", only to realize that our actions are followed by something called a "consequence". Living life to the fullest means that we should take the consequences of what's to come into consideration- and from there, making the decision that would provide the most happiness to you and those around you.

Innocence in a young adult is rare, but when found, puts a lot of faith back into the human race.

The world tends to make cynics of the aged while the youth hasn't been subjected to the failures that cause such additudes. Thus, many would like to return to such but find it impossible to love again and endear that phase.

Of course it is endearing. The quality of childhood is protected by parents and relatives. Life will teach all of us eventually. My personal belief is that we should not rush through childhood.

Some of us, however, are born old. Lol. I have read some books that say that is another fact of our life on earth. We have retained some past cosmic memories? Who knows.

In one short sentence, because you get the charm of a child, without the inconvenience of childish silliness.

It doesn't last, though. Like virginity, innocence is a once-only experience.
