Which state did it happen in? My best guess, generally among all states, is that the killer will get at least 15 years in prison. He broke into someone's house while they were sleeping, had a gun, and used it during the crime. The room was dark, so killer didn't know if he would kill anyone when firing, so might as well say it was murder and not manslaughter. In a state tough on crime, he might do life in prison. So my bet's on 15 to life.
