He thought he should be allowed to build a multi-million pound property development (and incidental golf course) on evironmentally sensitive land in Aberdeen - all because his mother came from Stornaway, Mr Trump said: "I really wanted this to be built in Scotland because of my family connection. My mother was Mary MacLeod. She was seriously Scotch." and because he has lots of money to throw at objections.

The Aberdonians have told him to get lost. One man refused to sell Trump his land, which was situated in the midddle of the proposed development, despite being offered millions to do it and a million pound a year job on working on the development. He responded by offering Trump a job for him, cleaning toilets.

Is the Aberdonians unimpressed and resistant attitude the backbone of Scottish pride? Or is refusing to embrace corporate America a bad thing for the future of Scotland?
The American ambassador said last year that Scotland becoming independent would be bad for America.

"I really wanted this to be built in Scotland because of my family connection. My mother was Mary MacLeod. She was seriously Scotch."

Just for saying this alone I am glad he got knocked back. Seriously, comparing your mother to a bottle of Whisky or a side of beef isn't exactly flattering (Scotch is a highly offensive term when used the way that numpty used it).

As for a Scots resistant attitude ... nah, we just don't like getting pushed around by the "big man" & will make sure our voice is heard.

This whole inicdent reminds me of the movie "Local Hero".

Yeah, Scotland becoming independent would be bad for the USA. They'd have to invade us & bomb our cities into dust to get our oil, and as everyone knows it takes money to fight an illegal war.

I wish more people would respond like that to Trump and corporations in general. Good on them.
I don't know that we benefit from having so many powerful and rich corporations anyway. Embracing American corporate culture is unhealthy for nations in general.
And who cares what an American ( Bush appointed ) Ambassador says ? That person is just another Republican, well connected corporate shill.

I say good for the Scott's. Way to go. Just about time someone told that fool NO.

He comes around waving his wallet and expects all to fall to their knees.

So congratulations Scotland... you are good people!

About time someone told that idiot No.

Trump is not necessarily emblematic of corporate America. He's just an ******** who gets way too much TV time.
