Its my daughters's first hamster, about 2 years old, and seems to hve have just died. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to do with it legally as far as burial. Also there is an ice storm going on right now with lots of cold rain. What type of funeral would be appropriate?

the girls are ages 10 and 11 and hve already seen my dad's dog die, plus been to funerals for two grandmothers and a great grandfather. They understand that death is permanent. I want to know if I will get in trouble legally for burying the hamster on private property or should I wrap it up and put it in the trash? It seems to me that years ago I heard one of those methods was against the law and I can't remember which . Also it may have changed or the info may have been wrong to start with.

The real question is what does your daughter accept as the proper respect for her deceased pet. You didn't give her age, but you need to introduce a young child to the concept of death as something natural (and permanent).

For example you dont just flush the goldfish down the toilet in front of the kid.. you give her the first lesson in closure.

For a hamster, .. just wrap it up.. dig a hole if the ground is not frozen, or build a stone mound til spring time. She will accept it and you can later take care of it so that it does not get dug up by other animals.

The hamster is dead.. but your kid as a whole life (and more dead things) ahead...how you handle this will set the tone for the next one.

you ought to entomb her in a small Pringles guy or woman serving field. Then, build and 12' X 12' pyramid over the suitable of her utilising purely fowl Mcnuggets packing containers. Like they did in Egypt, do exactly not waste 4000 years doing it.

I really do not see any harm in buring something as small as a hamster IN YOUR YARD! i have buried my pets that have died, and truthfully couldn't care less if it's illegal. it's your property.
