The proper would be "I built a lofty snowman taller than I"..but who the hell talks like that?

I'd go with the first one. 'Myself' is a reflexive pronoun that would need a preposition in front of it, to be correct (unless you're saying something like, 'I gave myself a pedicure.'). Even then, there's an understood 'to' after 'gave.'
