This question can’t actually be solved for x if it’s just (9x+8) - (-3x+9) because then it’s not an equation and therefore cannot be solved. it has to be written as: a= (9x+8) - (-3x+9). In this equation there are two variables, “a” and “x” and there is only one equation. It is a rule in math if you are trying to find on variable only one equation is needed. If you have two variables two equations are needed etc. o you cannot find out what “x” is, but you can find out what “x” is in relation to “a”. The first step to solving this equation is to expand it. You can use the acronym FOIL (First, Inside, Outside, Last) to help you. First you would write a= because that stays the same, then you have to multiply 9x by -3x (The first two in each of the brackets.) which is -27x2. Now you multiply 9x by 9 (The outside two in each of the brackets) which is 81x. After that you multiply 8 by -3x (The inside two in each of the brackets) which is -24x. Finally you multiply 8 by 9 (The last two in each of the brackets) which is 72. Now you put the whole thing together which will look like a=-27x2+81x-24x+72. After this step you can simplify it by subtracting 24x from 81x. Now you will have a=-27x2+57x+72. This equation cannot be simplified further because there are no more like terms (like terms are terms that have the same variables and exponents i.e. 3y and -84y or 54ab and 8ab or 5z3 and 25z3 but not 5t2 and 3t or 2ab and 4a). Since this equation has a degree of 2 (the degree of an equation is the highest exponent on a variable) it would be a parabola if you graphed it. That means that if you put all the points that would fit with this equation on a graph it would look like a big curve.

Change the subtraction to +-
(9x+8) - (-3x+9) becomes:
(9x+8) + -(-3x+9)
This will make things easier; addition is easier to deal with than subtraction.
Now change everything in the second parenthesis to its oppotiste:
(9x + 8) + (3x + -9)
Now combine like terms:
12x + -1
Hope that was helpful! :)

(9x+8) - (-3x+9)
9x + 8 +3x -9
you use the distributive property to solve:
a(b + c) = ab + ac
when there's nothing in front of the parenthesis, you assume its a +1, so +1 times +9x = +9x.
+1 times +8 = +8
and then there's a negative in front of the next set of parenthesis, so
-1 times -3x = + 3x (- times - = positive)
and -1 times +9 equals -9 (- times + = negative)
so, 9x + 8 +3x -9
you combine like terms:
9x + 3x = 12x. you combine those because theyre both x's.
+8 -9 = -1 you combine those because they're noth constants.
god luck with the dis. prop. :)

(9x+8)-(-3x+9)
First, you multiply the (9x+8) by 1 and the (-3x+9) by -1:
9x+8+3x-9
Then, you add the 9x and 3x and the 8 and -9:
12x-1

you should multiply each and each of the numbers with the aid of each of the others. we used to have a smiley face to symbolize it in my algebra type. one million. you should multiply first 7x9, then 8xX5x, then 7X5x, and then ultimately 8xX9. 7x9=sixty 3 8xX5x=40x^2 7X5x=35x 8xX9=72x now you upload all people who're alike, impressive now your exquation looks like this on paper: sixty 3+40x^2+35x+72x including each thing it is alike now looks like this sixty 3+107x+40x^2 you cant upload if the variables (fancy word for letter) if theyre not precisely alike. so sq. roots cant be further, except theyre simplified. i cant keep in mind the thank you to try this, sorry! those devoid of variables are interior the front of the equation, it cant be simplified any farther, then its basically in alphabetical and numerical order, yet some instructors dont care. solid success! i'm hoping it is sufficient assistance to get you engaged on it!
