I have a 1994 grand am gt v6 which has 175 hp...I like its zip and im looking for new cars. I found a honda civic with 115 hp and a jetta w/ 115 or 155. also an acura with 130ish. Are there any smaller cars such as audi, acura, honda, volvo, volkswagen, saab that would have the same hp/ acceleration or better than my grand am...btw...its automatic.

It's NOT the horsepower that gives it zip, but the "gear ratio" at any particular instance, plus the torque. V6's, in general, have a bit more torque at the lower than than the 4-cylinder engines, giving it the feeling of more power.

Plus, automatics have a "kickdown" switch that when you push the throttle all the way, it automatically upshifts a gear to give it more passing power.

IF your going to spend that much....buy the dodge neon srt-4. its the worlds fastest car for under twenty thousand dollars. If you like zip, then this car is your best bet. used ones are available at a lower price now too. ..and the guy ahead of me is wrong...the car downshifts when you pass into a lower gear to give you that zip as you like to say. Or just buy something with a HEMI and learn what real power and "zip"is.
