Well when soda first came out they called it pop. But in certain places now they changed the name to soda while others still refer to it as pop. So really there both right but really pop is the name because it was first. But as we all know when the generations change so do the names. So by the time we all old and stuff it'll be called something else.LOL

That's a very good question, because I'm an English teacher in Mexico and everybody asks me that question. I always tell them both are right, but it's been quite useful to check all these answers. In my personal opinion, when I say pop I immediately think of pop music, maybe because it's my favorite. So I usually call it soda, but soda pop is okay too. I think it's messed up that Coca-Cola has so much influence that people call everything "coke". "Sugar water" was a pretty hilarious answer. That's essentialy what it is.

If you're really in doubt, call it a "soft drink" or by name. The regional versions of it are pretty much as described--"pop" in the Midwest, "coke" in the South, "soda" elsewhere.
The only real reason there's confusion is because in some parts of the Midwest and East Coast, a "soda" can also be the equivalent of an *ice cream float*, or a soft drink with two scoops. ^_^
Hope this helps. ^_^

SODA POP! I think. Pop is like how it is like the emotion of it when you drink it. Soda is a drink and that is what you drink for the pop.

I live in Pa we say Pop. We have family in the south who say Soda. Just depends what you have heard all your life. Sometimes when I say pop, even people from my area look at me funny, so that may be on the way out.
