4(x+2) / (x+2)(x+4)
the (x+2) cancels out
4 / x + 4

(x+2)(x-1) / (x-2)(x-1)
the x-1's cancel out
x+2 / x - 2

1) let's tear it apart top and bottom
4x +8 will factor to 4(x+2)
and
x^2 + 6x + 8 will factor to (x+2)(x+4)

so we have
4(x+2) / (x+2)(x+4)

the x+2 's cancel leaving

4/x+4
and that DOES NOT reduce further

do the same with # 2

1. 4(x + 2)/(x + 2)(x+4) = 4/x + 4

2. (x - 1)(x + 2)/(x - 2)(x - 1) = x + 2/x - 2
