Increasing the relative humidity in your house makes it more comfortable and can save on heating costs.Heating air in a home with a furnace can lower humidity to the point where you may need to increase the temperature to feel warm Dry air also irritates your sensitive breathing passages. There are several benefits to humidifiers. A "return air" type is best.

The humidifier is not for your furnace. It doesn't care if it has one or not. The humidifer is for you and your house. If you have a problem with dry air making you cough / sneeze then you may want a humidifier. You dont have to attach one to your furnace at all, just get a portable one. Very dry air can also affect wood furniture & cabinets by making them dry out and crack.
