I think it depends on whose obituary it is. I don't think it is inherently disrespectful to throw it out. If I went to a co-worker's parent's funeral for example, I would throw it away. But for my parent, I would keep it forever.

If it is for someone in your family, it is a great piece of family history. I have done some geneology research for example, and those cards can often provide more rich information about someone's life than anywhere else can.

It is not necessary to keep it. Obituary cards are given out for comfort reasons. If you have come to terms with your loss there is no reason to keep the reminder. Instead cherish your good memories of the person you have lost.

It's not disrespectful at all. Those who have crossed to the other side have no use for the trinkets we keep to remember them by. As long as you hold and respect their memory, there is nothing wrong with tossing a piece of paper out.

a present someone gave me that I not in any respect use. i can not ever throw it away because no one else has ever given me a present. some day my tale will study. All those who made me out to be a monster will be placed on the spot and puzzled unto shame.

well, i guess it's kinda pointless to keep all of them. if you do you'll have quite a collection. we have both of my grandparents obituary card and i would never throw those away. i guess, it depends on the person and how close they were to you. i just wouldn't tell the family that your throwing it away.

If the person was someone that you or your family was close to, you should keep it in a momento box. It may come in handy later for you or another person who was close to that person for scrapbook reasons. If you were not close but you know someone who was, consider asking them if they would like to have it. If you were not close (ie: co-worker, friend of a friend, etc) you could toss it. If you keep everything forever you will have to build a shed to keep it all. Only keep things that are truely special, valuable or important to you.

If you were close to the person then you should consider keeping it. Obituary cards are keepsakes to remember the person's final tribute and if their death affected you, then assuage your conscience and keep it.

If you did not know them well, I would not keep it.

Instead of throwing it away at your last option, I would just give to the deceased relative when you're visiting just saying that it the card gives you too many painful memories.
