I believe the vast majority believe in Freedom of Speech. However, as in any democracy there are those who don't feel the same. They are the ones who say Love it or leave it, that dissent with the government policies is somehow unAmerican and unpatriotic, that you must be a socialist or communist if you think some social change might be good for the country. These are the people, though in a minority, and you see them on this site, that are the real danger to losing the free speech. So speak out against them and what you don't believe is right or eventually all will be lost if they prevail in the society.

Yes and no.
Many of us do genuinely treasure freedom of speech.
But for many, although they give lip service to it, they don't really believe in it. You can see it on this very site, where people are told that it's immoral to speak out against the President, blah, blah, blah, while the troops are defending our liberty.
Uh, WTF? If they're defending out liberty (which I dispute), then why doesn't that liberty include speaking our conscience?
As I said in another answer, Bill Moyers once took a copy of the bill of Rights (but without that heading) to Central Park and asked people what they though of it.
An amazing proportion of people, not only didn't recognize it, but thought it was a bad idea.
!!!
Although most Americans give lip service to the notion of liberty, they don't really get it, and want to deport everyone who doesn't agree with them, however clearly in the wrong they are.
But I believe that crowd to be a minority -- been drinking too much Rush & O'Reilly Kool-Aide.

Freedom of Speech, is still a right of the American people.
But, there are some, who have turned this "treasure" into a
"travisty," with the internet. ****======

Yes, but the public should use their freedom of speech more often than they do, and more people should participate.

The people consider it to be something to treasure, but our government doesn't seem to think it is completely advisable anymore.
