Certain to remain one of the greatest haunted-house movies ever made. A massive New England mansion (actually filmed in England) will play host to four daring guests determined to investigate and hopefully debunk the legacy of death and ghostly possession that has given the mansion its terrifying reputation. The group is introduced to the supernatural through this 100 year old haunted house. What you don't see is infinitely more frightening than what you do, and with no severed heads or bloody corpses in sight. The Haunting is guaranteed to chill you to the bone. Be prepared for a hair-raising time in this classic horror film. One of my favorites and not to be confused with the newer modern version not nearly as scary.

I|A|X-I've seen The Legend of Hell House several times and I really enjoyed it as well.

PanamaJo- the scene in the bedroom with the two ladies where the sound comes down the hallway and everyone is outside chasing a dog is downright scary. Also, another bedroom scene where the two ladies are sleeping and the voice in the dark with a baby voice and a hand sqeezing is enough to make one jump. Some of the people here say they weren't scared so I wonder if they may be thinking of the remake movie that didn't scare me either.

Bobe, I ALWAYS recommend the 1963 "The Haunting" when people ask, "What's a good horror movie?" It is SO scary!

That scene in the bedroom...!!!! I always scream (not really, I'm a 50 yo man)but I like the pic a lot more than the remake (ugh!) Great film!

Yes, and the first time I saw it was on TV over 2 successive nights with commercials. And it was still scary!

What I love about the movie is that the viewer never sees anything scary. No blood, no gore, no monsters. I think it's because whatever one can imagine is always more terrifying than some makeup and blood monster. It's all in the mind.

it's a good movie but it didn't scare me. supernatural beings don't go around with severed heads or other body parts. they do totally different things.
