I have been in the same predicament with my own best friend and I decided that a relationship would only complicate things and potentially ruin a great friendship. I think that it is hard to move past the best friend barrier because they seem close to you like a brother almost, not as a boyfriend or anything more.

Maybe because you are afraid that if any thing turns wrong, you just might lose a special friend like him.Don't rush into relationships especially if it is with someone you truly care for in any other sense.Take time and if you ever feel it's right then go for it.If he really cares for you he will understand. True friends are really hard to find and should be treasured.

Well, i think that you should do what you think that you should do. No one can tell you anything about how you feel. Only you can. I think that you should give him a chance, but honestly if you dont feel comfortable doing that, then just dont. if you know that will make you awkward around him, dont give him a chance. Do what feels right to you and follows your values and morals.

There's a plain and simple answer to this: you don't have feelings for him, and that's normal. There's nothing wrong with it. If you don't think he's the one, then don't be with him. i have 2 guy friends. they are both like brothers to me. at different times we tried to date and it never worked. when they have a problem with a girlfriend they call me. when i have a problem with a boyfriend i call them. so we know each others dirty little secrets pet peeves. i know that makes it sound like wow it would be a great relationship but for us knowing that much made it impossible because in a non friendship relationship it would take us years if ever to share that much of ourselves.
