Before you get Angels do some research on them. It helps to buy a book since information on the web is usually lacking detail and almost always very vague. It's good to learn about their territorial behaviour, the way the pair up into monogomous couples.
The best thing to do is aim for just one pair of them. This will give them space to live comfortably - they do grow pretty big (6" long, 12" high including fins). You would start with 3 or 4 Angels to make sure you ended up with a mix of genders, and grow them out until they paired off. Once a pair forms they will often start harassing any other Angels in the tank, and you would need to remove the rest of them and return them if this happens. The most I would go for is 2 pairs (4) of them - in which case you would want to start with 6 of them or so. 3 pairs (6) is now overcrowding them and not giving them enough space to live comfortably without having to deal with other Angels in their space all the time, and is just overboard for the size of the tank.
For tankmates you should consider that Angels in the wild eat small fish like neons, so avoid the tiny types like those, cardinals, and all those similar fish. Otherwise most community fish will work. You can get a school of a tetra type, but one a little larger with a laterally compressed body (tall and slim). Top dwellers like hatchets are also no problem. Any bottom dweller fits well since they use a different part of the tank altogether. If a fish is known for nipping at other fishes fins, like barbs and sometimes danios, don't include them - those angel fins are hard to resist.
Don't forget that Angels like a planted enviroment, like most of the fish compatible with them, so include lots.

Angels would be fine.Tetra,Gourami,Mollies,Cherry Barbs,Cory Cats,Guppies,or any other community fish you can find would be O.K. with Angels.
If you do get Angels, please do not get 3.Either get 1 with other community fish or get at least 6(40 gallons is enough for 6).If you have 3 you might have a breeding pair, and the one that is not breeding will be picked on by the other 2.With at least 6 ,odds are not all of them will breed,so the abuse will be more wide spread and not directed at just one fish.
Whatever you decide,Good Luck!

First of all you need to cycle your tank, before putting in any fish, unless you want to cycle with fish, then zebra danios are your perfect choice, they're extremly hardy
once it's cycled you can add up to 6 angels in your tank including a few cory cats (bottom feeders) and lots of plants
Hope that helps
Good luck

id go with 3 angelfish (creates a pecking order) and then 10 cardinal tetras (make sure they are adults, angels have a rep for eating small ones) 6 hatchetfish, and 6 cory cats. but eve is right, you MUST cycle your tank first. until you finish that, no fish is suitible for your tank, afterwards, your options are plentiful.
