Anything "expected" is not romantic. Flowers, candles, all the predicted stuff which is cliche. But any of it can be romantic when it is unexpected.

it p!sse$ me off when someone buys me flowers, they are god-given and we should not have to pay for them just because someone picked them. that goes for animals too, and plants,...kind of like having to pay someone to look at the stars....o wait NASA does that.
