or should we just let this lot keep putting tax on the price of fuel each year , and don't tell me it done for the enviroment because, if that was true public transport would be better and cheaper and cleaner, and they would not be planning to expand airports either.

It's got to happen eventually.

It's not just fuel increasing - has anyone else noticed prices in the supermarkets rising??

This country is reliant on road transport since the Beeching era of decimating the rail system and we now move 95% of goods by road.

The Government is now raking in 73p per litre in tax. It would not be so bad if this money was at least being used to improve alternative methods of transport. As it is it is simply being squandered on bolstering the ever increasing expenditure of this Government on banal schemes.

The Government don't seem to care about the fuel prices. The ideal situation for them is in a few weeks the price drops back below £1 per litre and everyone seems happy thinking 'oh well at least it's below a quid a litre'. HOWEVER when the original protests happened that was for the price going above 80p per litre. It just appears that most people in the UK accept the price increases believing there is nothing they can do. I may be wrong but I believe that when the Government brought in the new Terrorism act there is actually something in that act that actually outlaws Fuel Protests.

The Environment has nothing to do with the fuel price increases, it is simple a Government Cash Generator. Motorist = EASY TARGET

Dunno.

I think that fuel should be expensive (I know I am going to get loads of thumbs down for that comment) and the current fuel duty is not something I have a problem with.

What I do not like is the crap public transport system we have. (Outside London.)

So, until we get a decent public transport system, I would agree that fuel prices should be cheaper. There is no point in forcing us of the roads if there is no alternative for us to travel. But once we have an alternative to travelling by cars, I mean one that works, then fuel tax should go up.

Yes there will be another protest for all the good it will do.
After Xmas fuel tax is to rise by another 2p a litre which will take it to the £5 a gallon mark ($10).
During the last protest the EU told the government to reduce fuel by at 1/3rd but Blair and Brown refused.

One good thing though , it`s another nail in the coffin for CORRUPT New Labour.

Yes, but everybody's so busy going flat out working for the higher cost of living, higher mortgages, higher fuel prices most wouldn't entertain taking time out to protest as they'd lose money and so the vicious circle created by the government can perpetuate and they can put up taxes as everyone will just run faster on the work treadmill to keep up. The cost of petrol is a total con.

I think whats needed is for the whole country to come to a stand still ( except of course the emergency services etc ) because its getting out out of hand the amount of taxes we are paying on fuel etc , The government are already taking a big chunk out of our wages without super imposed taxes on fuel Its getting harder and harder to make ends meet . Something really needs to be done before fuel hits £ 1.50 a litre and believe me its not far off

if the government was spending the billions raised on improving the NHS and transport social housing etc i would say no. but all that money we are expected to pay goes on immigrants who just come in and take. so i say if we could take the money out of the hands of the government, then perhaps they wont be able to afford to leave the borders open. i think the money would be better spent 'by the public ' on semtex. then we could blow the whole rotten corrupt political system to hell.

i think of with a labour government its no longer likely. the undertaking is they get plenty renvenue from it i do no longer think of they are in a position to truly arise with the money for to realize this, i think of its like 60-80p you pay is going to the government. the undertaking is the government did no longer speculate interior the destiny in the course of the financial enhance (like china have). They spent all their money jointly as cases the place sturdy, and now they have no longer something in reserve for the wet days to help the rustic out in this time of financial unsettlement. So tax breaks and public investment that should help common human beings out to balence the books or perhaps try against the financial downturn via encouraging client self assurance arn't an option via fact they are in a position to't arise with the money for it. extremely frankly its undesirable agency and making plans (particularly blatant brief-sightedness) on behalf of the government, and its in all probability going to be joe prevalent that sufferes as a consequence of it. properly- that's my opinion besides. particularly a rant, i understand.

damn right. the way i see it. the british goverment seems to be able to do want ever they damn well please with no consideration to it's british tax payers. but the more we stand up to them the more they will have to listern. so yes. to make our goverment realise that we have had enough of the way us british are treated. strike. after all. 65 % of the cost of a litre of fuel is goverment tax as we all no. yet look at the way they spend the money. wars that don't have anything to do with britain. and bailing out banks. whats all that about? spending billion of pounds of our british pension money. only to say sorry. but we can't afford to pay it back because we have spent it on other things that will not benifit the british people in anyway. so yea. if we wan't our goverment to listern to want we want. strike. fxxk em.

It is LONG over due.
Saw derv at 112p per litre.
Daylight robbery.
Fuel is now essential, not like the luxury it used to be when we had local shops and services.
It should NOT be taxed at all.
