In its editorial on December 1, the New York Times criticizes Hugo Chavez for being undemocratic and urges the people of Venesuela to vote NO. How can you explain that if you believe that liberals are socialists?

1. Not all liberals are socialists. But ideological socialists have gained a lot of influence in the universities and in the Democratic Party. This doesn't mean all Democrats are socialists, either.
2. Not all socialists favor "the dictatorship of the proletariat," or a socialist dictator imposing a sort of socialism on the country. This is obviously undemocratic and an invitation to corruption.
3. I'm glad to hear that the New York Times is criticizing Chavez.

Before an election year, some people will sell their soul to Satan.

For whom do you think that all those celebrities that are hugging, supporting, and taking their photos with Hugo Chavez will vote??????????

Never trust only what people say, observe what they do, AND what and whom do they support, and you'll see who they really are!!

because Chavez is more communist than socialist. I.e. he is actively curbing freedoms and liberties. socialist societies don't necessarily curb free speech, rather they generally focus on re-distribution of wealth only (although through-out history, socialism has been observed to progressively curb freedoms). Communism, put very simply, re-distributes wealth and curbs freedoms, and Chavez is doing both.
