Perhaps it would be best if a jury decided the punishment for him or her.
Let the punishment fit the crime!
Remember perpetrators can be male or female, a few female teachers lately.

The term "sexual predator" covers a lot of territory. It could range from a young man or lady from 18 to 25 who had sexual relations with a teenager between 14 and 17 which would have been considered consensual if both parties had been over 18) to someone who forcibly rapes, tortures, and even kills very young children. For many people, the words "sexual predator" bring up images of monstrous looking men who prey on children and helpless women. However most of us probably wouldn't be able to tell a sexual predator from a normal individual just on looks alone.
I teach in a men's prison and the inmates in there for sex crimes look pretty harmless for the most part. Remember Ted Bundy was considered a good looking man and look at the crimes he committed. So no one should feel safe around strangers just because they don't fit the stereotype of a sexual predator.
Obviously the more violent the sexual offense is, the more severe the punishment should be for the perpetrator. The the difference of age between the victim(if he/she is under 18) and the assailant should also be taken into account. You would also have to consider the person's prior criminal record, especially other sexually related offenses.
If you happen to subscribe to a "one punishment fits all" then your 20 year old son, grandson, nephew, cousin, etc who happened to become sexually involved with a 16 year old girl could get as harsh a punishment as the guy who hides in the alley waiting on his next victim. I'm not condoning these type of relationships; but there has to be more appropriate consequences than prison and a label of "sexual predator" for young people who just thought they were in a loving relationship with another human being. Again, I think there should be some type of consequences for this, but not to the level of those for those who truly prey on their victims.
Nonetheless, I have to warn any young person over the age of 18, if you engage of any kind of sexual activity with a minor you are probably breaking the law. You are subject to prosecution.and the good chance of being label a sexual predator or a sexually orientated offender for a long, long time. By law, minors can not legally give consent to any kind sexual activity with person 18 or over. Parents you might want to remind your young adult sons and daughters of this also.
I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, but I've seen too many young men with their lives next to being ruined because they chose to have sexual relations with a minor.

I just found out recently that someone I knew is a registered sex offender. I don't know the facts behind the offense, but I would have never guessed this person did such a thing. It would be hard to give someone life in prison for something that occurred on one occasion. I don't know if this person did this on one occasion. Obviously there is no way to tell that a one time thing wouldn't turn into a multiple time thing since there is no rehabilitation for this offense. I'm not sure there is much rehabilitation going on in the prison system anyway. For those who are serial sexual predators, they need to die and die quickly. Forget the red tape and do away with them.

Alas, I am beginning to see castration as a good idea, at least in some cases. I know it won't turn the predator into a good guy, but it might make it easier for him to leave children alone. He may still be a sociopath, but without so much testosterone he might be able to live within the law.
Of course, everybody's different.
In the US, though, anything that could be construed as mutilation is a very sensitive issue, and not without reason. But I'd think we could allow castration for those convicts who are willing, in exchange for a lighter sentence.
Of course, this isn't the end of the story. I know of one predator who castrated himself (he was tormented by guilt over his activities). He functioned much better then, and stopped molesting. But later, when he suffered from depression (natural enough, in a pedophile with a conscience), a doctor prescribed testosterone supplements. The patient described the result as "a living hell." All his perverted impulses came back to him. Of course he quit taking the testosterone. But this one had a conscience. Most pedophiles don't seem to, or at least not enough of one.

Depending on what he does, casteration would be a good start. If it involves a young child then the death penalty should be used. We don't need to house these people in the over crowded prisons and pay for their well being since they didn't consider the childs well being.

Since it has been proved that there is no cure for them, the only thing is either complete isolation for the rest of their lives or, depending on the crime, the death penalty.
