The harder a power plant works the more fuel it uses, the more fuel it uses the more pollution it produces so using less energy causes less pollution, however this has to be a collective effort, one person turning off a light bulb isn't going to change much but 10,000 people turning off a light bulb will.

So we are not just little brats who waste all the resources nature supplies them with needlessly?

So we can look our kids and grandchildren in the eye when they will ask us why we did not take good care of their heritage?

Apart from that there are no other reasons.

If someone honestly believes that just because they have a way of destroying everything within their reach they also have a right to do so, one can't help.

It's like with three year old kids who destroy their toys because they are "theirs". The responsible parent will react by not buying any new toys and the child will learn a painful but necessary lesson.

Nature acts just like that parent. Once this planet is gone, we won't get another. Anyone who thinks otherwise can as well go and rent an apartment at the loony bin tomorrow.

Simple answer, to save money and fuel and to reduce pollution. You don't really give much detail in your question as to whether this is like a household or enviormental question. If its in your home its to save money, because electric isn't cheap these days. Enviormentally its to save minerals from being depleted and to reduce green house gasses and pollution

It helps 'save' the environment. If thats true. It takes energy to make energy in a way. Even though energy cannot be destroyed or created. Hope that helps.
