This is a smitfraud malware infection. Go to www.download.com and download SuperAntispyware and Spyware Doctor Starter Edition. Both are completely free. Next install, update, take your pc of the internet, then run complete scans with each. This should remove the malware if not. Boot your computer in safe mode (F8) and perform a complete scan there. Your problem is solved. Good luck!

Norton is rubbish, loads of virus still come through even when nortons on the computer. Go to (www.Avast.com) download Avast home edition, stay on the avast website click on the register button fill in a few details to obtain a free registration key which will be sent to your email address....
I've been using avast for months and have had no problems at all. Also when you have avast on your computer any sites that contain virus are detected straight, which stops your computer getting affected.
As soon as you install Avast run this program straight away and you'll be surprised how many viruses this finds.
P.s any virus found move straight to the virus chest and delete them when avast has finished checking your computer
hope this is helpful enough.

That doesn't sound like much fun!
Do you have all the updates to your Norton antivirus software? If not, it's very possible that you do have a virus on your machine.
A word of warning, Norton itself has had problems in the past. You may want to get another antivirus program, either as a replacement or as a supplement.
Spyware is a different problem altogether- though it certainly does resemble viruses.. To deal with that, you need to get something like Ad-Aware or Spybot search and destroy.
Also, check your firewall program and make sure it hasn't been compromised.
Good luck!

Are you getting pop-ups or are you seeing a balloon coming from out of the systray?
Huge difference. Pop-ups are generally considered to be advertising that opens a new browser window and is usually quite large.
A balloon or a "bubble" is similar to a comic book dialog, that is providing information in regards to a icon that is down by the clock in your systray.
Phony "malware alerts", that are occurring in a pop-up often indicates a Vundo infection. VundoFix.exe is a specialized removal tool developed to remove Vundo (aka Virtumonde) infections.
VundoFix removal tool is here:
http://vundofix.atribune.org/
It's free.

Phony "malware alerts", that occur in a balloon often indicates a Smitfraud infection. The standard tool to remove this pest is SmitfraudFix. The full removal procedure and the free removal tool is here:
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php
Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot completely remove either Vundo or Smitfraud..
Good luck.

This sounds like adware and/or other malware to me.
My suggestion:
Download a few antispyware programs.
SUPERAntiSpyware
A-Squared FREE
AVG Anti-Spyware
Those are all good. Update them, do a full scan and it should remove the infections. If they detect the infections but cannot delete them, then you might need to boot your PC into safe mode by pressing F8 during bootup, then do a scan in safe mode.
Good luck

it's highly irritating when u get a lot of pop-ups..i know. see this website for more information on pop-ups:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/toolbar/features/popupblocker/stillgetting/pub-10.html
To ger rid of the malware, ensure that the security program is updated with the latest definitions. Updating will help provide protection against the most recently introduced security threats.
Run at least one, preferably two
Ad-Aware

SpyBot S&D
