Does anybody know what pall means?

A long time ago people most people did not have fancy caskets draped with ornate flower arrangements. Sometimes the casket was covered with a simple heavy linen cloth that might also have served double duty on the altar at the church. I think the term refers to those who were carrying the casket which was obscured by the pall. It also may be some mispronunciation of the work caul which is a thin membrane that some babies are veiled with at birth. A lot of people thought or still think you should be likewise covered with a veil when the human form awaits burial and is thus returned to the maker in some like fashion as in birth.

A pall is the heavy cloth that is draped over a casket. Thus, the people carrying the casket covered with the pall are called pallbearers.

While the word "pall" means a burial cloth or covering for a casket, the casket itself means "pall'.
