In theory, the people are supposed to keep the government in check.
In reality, the people obey the commands of the government.
It won't happen in our lifetime, but the revolution is coming to a town near you.

So those are the two options? Revolutionary or Mindless Sheep? Isn't there a middle ground called being a good citizen?
You know, like voting and being politically involved, without whining how your single vote can't change the entire world to suit you liking?
Like serving jury duty without whining how much it puts a dent in your vacation time...?
Like spending a little less on cell phones, internet and big screen TVs and a little more on charity, education and your own health care...?
Like supporting local businesses and politicians that make a difference instead of crying about how detached you are from big business and big government...?
Like helping others less fortunate than you, instead of demanding that the State help all of you equally....?
Like focusing on family, personal integrity and paying back society for the benefits you DO enjoy, and rejecting the culture of cynicism that causes so many to neglect their own responsibilities and then blame others for their own, chosen, disenfranchisement?

As a member of the military, it is a duty to defend the Constitution from even the US government if need be........as a citizen it is a choice. There is no human duty to be free....if a person wants to place themselves in the power of a government without question, that is their choice.

The good citizen keeps his government in check at the voting booth. He is also expected to obey the laws of his country. If he doesn't that makes him a criminal

It is my duty to keep the government in check. The government is a servant of the people, NOT the other way around, and it is high time that those in office start to again remember that. *sm*

It's our duty to keep them in line. I think that they sometimes lose sight of the fact that they work for US. Not the other way around. I'm sure that there are certain individuals in this country who would LOVE to see the citizens of this great land goose steppin' to their every word.

I thought we were a government for the people, by the people, but what we have to say obviously doesn't matter. They just keep doing what they want to. We can vote, but that doesn't mean much anymore.

Like anywhere else in the world "we the people" are caught in the middle. Until people everywhere get off their tails, it's them in charge and we obey....or else.

I'll just paraphrase Jefferson and say that a little revolution now & again is a good thing.
