1. So far I can trace my family tree unbroken in the United States to the pre-Civil War days. However, I found out four years ago that my surname originated in Saxony before the Norman conquest. Now I'm in the process of tracking my surname from the times of pre-Norman England to the pre-Civil War era in the US. It's taken four years, and I'm not finished. It'll probably take a few more years. 2. I think I would be disappointed that my descendants hadn't bothered to keep up with the family tree after I had put so much work into it myself. 3. I plan to pass the family tree on to the next generation, to someone I know will continue to update it.

I am an 11th Generation American. One of my ancestors is Edwin Hubble (Telescope named for him). Our Uncle Joe has the direct tree noted as far back as 1066 in England.

I don't think I really got back any further than my great grandparents' generation when I worked on it....I know my mother has done quite a lot of work on her side of the family, though....and she may have gone back a little further.

2 generations - all other records are destroyed. My grandmother didn't know if the town she came from was in Austria or Hungary!
