Hi,
I have always wanted to live on a desert island and just live off the land and I know for a fact millions of other people want to do the same.

I think its about time i stopped dreaming and started doing so if anybody wants to join me add your comments and lets go for it. doesnt matter how long we stay there for. i personnally would like to go for just a year or two.

If i get enough positive responses for this post then we can start looking for the right place to stay and how we are going to get there.

If you think im talking a load of rubbish and dont have anything positive to say about this i ask you not to bother commenting at all.

looking forward to hearing from you guyz.

Edd

to answer a few questions:

i dont know an island yet but im sure we could find one

we wouldnt need visa etc... if it was an unihabited desert island

so long as we had some form of communication in cases of emergency then we could get people off the island if they got sick. also if we travelled by boat to get to the island then if someone was sick and they couldnt get rescued then we could sail them back to get treatment.

dont worry about the report... its good

and also dont worry aout the issues raised as i have thought about all of these.

for water you can get instructions on how to or buy equpment for purifyinng sea water, for food you could take some soil and seeds etc... and fishing rods , and for shelter you would simply chose an island with lots of trees and take some waterproof material and rope (with these resources you could make a shelter no prob)

you have come to the right place, for this is something that I know about.
shelter, while building shelter is not a big deal, the resources to build it might be. To make the move, you need to decide if you are taking lumber with you and you have to take almost everything you need. in a wet environment, stuff rots fast, so if you have open areas, your home would soon fall apart.

rodents, arthropods (bugs) and animals would also be a problem. in the wild all animals are always one meal away from extinction so if you have it, they will show up.

water is not found as often as you think. if you are dependant on rain for drinking water, you better be able to store a lot of it. some islands get a lot of rain, but the ground does not store it up being either rockie or too sloped to keep the water. the islanders of the south pacific used to carry water with them, go to islands and build troughs to catch water and pray they were not dry when they would pass by again.

if you do not know how to purify the water, you will probably get sick and could very well die. (this is one of the things i do for soldiers is teach them to purify water when they have to)

food. this is also going to be something you need to give a lot of thought to. Food is not plentiful like at the super market. Remember the animals? they will want the same stuff you want. so you will need to address that issue if you have a garden or if you are just trying to find food.

you recall from history that for a long time, people were nomadic, chasing food and as farms got more and more established the people could build cities. The same thing can happen to you. unless you really plan ahead, you will spend all your free time looking for food and not enjoying the good life.

there are lots of other things to take into consideration and i'm not trying to talk you out of anything, i just want you to think intelligently about what you are doing.

i'm trained to survive, i teach people to survive, and you better get your ducks in a row before you head out the door.

life is not gilligan's island. it is closer to surviver tv reality. But remember they have the support of many others to help them get through the day.

not sure you wanted this report, but it is my job to keep people safe, aliving and at fighting strength

Did you ever actually go? I myself am actually looking at doing this and want to know how it went for you if you did this. Did you ever find an island?

I have dreamed of living on a deserted island for a long time. If I had the money to be able to get out of this town with my son we would give it a shot. I realize this is a post from 6 years ago but it still sounds like heaven. I would love it so I can get away from all this drama in my town and not rely on cell phones. and eating fruit and sea food maybe I could lose this extra 150 pounds. It is a pipe dream I know. but a dream all the same.

COUNT ME IN!!!!
I'd do it without hesitation. I'm sure I'd give up everything to do that. Because what does it matter if my firends/family don't wan't me doing it. i don't plan on seeing them if I'm alone on an island. it's the ultimate reward. no worries, no taxes, no people to bug you. a clean unpolluted enviornment, etc. the list is endless and words can't even come close to describing them. The only problem to worry about is survival (and maybe global warming if the island floods) but i'd rather die on a deserted island than live in NY anyday. I've actually spent a while on google earth looking for islands to live on and I think I found one I like, and there's a lot more near antigua. Now I'm just trying to figure out how I would get there. I need a more seaworthy boat or helicopter.

Nice idea but you can't run away from problems. What island is it going to be? Are we going to need a visa? About shots are we going to need any? About if one of us get very sick, are we going to be able to leave the island for medical help or we'll just "RIP" there? They make it fun and adventurous on TV but that is not reality. Check out the movie "cast away". Thanks for the invitation. =)
