My baby is 7 months old and desperately wants to crawl but can't figure it out yet!
Whereas he used to be happy to play on his tummy and roll around the room, he now just tries to crawl and cries. Doesn't seem to matter what I do with him - standing, sitting, chairs, door bouncer, he just ends up trying to get around and crying again!!

Any tips on getting through this phase??

This is one of those times in a parent's life when you can't do something for them: they need to learn how to use their muscles and develop their own motor skills. You CAN snuggle him, and love him, and be there to catch him when he falls, but he has to learn how to do it himself. He'll be crawling within the next couple weeks. They all figure it out eventually!

He might be like my two sons and figure out crawling, only to find that they can only move backwards! They get so frustrated because they keep getting farther away from their target! Soon enough, they figure it out and can crawl everywhere. Just be patient with him and offer lots of smiles and encouragement.

well my little boy did like a commando crawl didnt crawl properly until about a week b4 he walked! I would say show him what to do, you crawl! but if he starts getting angry with himself like most have said try distracting him, i thought my son would never crawl and untill about 9 months he still rolled around, another thing is get him one of them baby walkers they help the muscles get stronger and he may just bypass crawling if he can wander around in his walker some babies never crawl so have patience and enjoy lovely age!

I know it's hard to watch him so frustrated, but all you can do is try to help him strengthen his muscles so he can crawl. Be sure that his toys are within his reach, that could be a source of frustration. Get down and play with him. Try baby situps to strengthen his stomach muscles and such. Also, try having him push off of your hands or other object to move forward when crawling. My little one is having similar problems, he's scooting, but moving BACKWARDS! ;) Poor guy gets so frustrated when he moves further from his toys! But, he'll get it eventually. They all do.
Blessings to you.

He's just discouraged. Hes trying so hard to do something and he cant. He might be trying to crawl to a toy but if you bring that toy to him, he wont want it. He wants to do it himself. Theres nothing you can really do to help him not be discouraged though. You can offer him encouragement and try to cheer him on but that may not work. You might just have to wait it out until he learns how to crawl on his own.

Distraction and patience! If he see him starting to get frustrated, try to get him interested in something else before he gets too worked up. Pick him up and swing him around, dance with him, go for a walk, play peek-a-boo, etc.

It's usually a pretty short phase, so hang in there!
