I can't believe just how rabid the BBC is about this. First off, their shows are rubbish, I never even watch it. They force us to pay for a license just to keep them on the air, when to be honest, they are wayyyyy past their sell by date, and I could find far better programming on a Romanian channel using my satellite dish.
I am in the process of moving, and I have had to stay in a temporary place, and things have been in storage for four months, including the televisions, and when I rang to cancel my payments, I got the grilling of my life. They kept me on the phone for ages, questioning me, and asking for the address, and the room number of my hotel. I gave them the hotel name and address, but refused to give them the room number in case they tried to make me pay for a license for the hotels t.v.
What a bunch of jerks. I pay my sky bill (so I have a better choice than the rubbish the BBC air), that should be enough.

Yep - I got caught - kind of but they cant just issue a summons. The tv licensing guy has to actually catch you watching the TV, you have to answer the door and admit that you are watching TV and dont have a license. He then cautions you, takes details of the TV, your name etc and only then can they summons you. If anyone gets caught out just give a false name - every week in our local paper they report whos been taken to court for this - so farI've seen Celine Dion, Razor Ruddock, Fanny Craddock and Micheal Mouse :-) They obviously dont check and that way you dont get a criminal record xxx

you may not circumvent this legally. The licence is needed in case you posses and use equipment able to receiving "stay" television publicizes. those could be from cable, satellite tv for pc, terrestrial or internet; and it is not important no count number if or not you in no way BBC. you may not get away criminal accountability merely by not having an aerial/cable/dish. If a television detector passes, or a neighbour comments you, or any different way that the TVLA locate out, then you would be in the problematical place of having to teach your innocence. the only thank you to make specific of not being prosecuted for loss of a television licence is to not have a working television set. in case you in ordinary terms opt for to computer screen non-stay television from the internet then you could be in a greater advantageous place to justify this in case you in ordinary terms have a computer screen - it rather is something with a demonstrate screen yet no tuner.

Ive always had one but my friend got shopped for not having one by someone (not me!). He got a big fine, and he STILL hasnt got one!

Apparently they know youve got a TV at home even if you dont use it. You cant be prosecuted if you dont USE a tv for which youve got no licence, though you can still own the tv.

But they will send you threatening letters to get a licence; theyll even send bad letters to you if youve got rid of your tv set! All you have to do in that case is write to them once saying youve got rid of it, and they cant touch you legally, no matter how many letters they send you after that.
