Does anyone have implants? How are they working for you? I realize they are quite expensive.

Getting used to dentures takes time. There are a lot of adjustments to make both physically and emotionally. It is very important to report all of your experiences to the dentist and have your dentures adjusted or relined as your gums change. I am assuming you are wearing immediate dentures.

One reason foods may taste different has to do with the condition of your mouth prior to having your teeth extracted- if you had gum disease issues and or decayed teeth, the taste of food had been altered for some time for you. It occurred slowing so you did not notice it. Now with your new teeth, you may be tasting food as it is supposed to taste. Also, the healing of your gums will affect taste as the taste of blood can be quite strong and the sloughing off of dead skin cells as the healing is taking place.

I do not have implants. Full removable dentures here

I have a full denture at the top and a partial denture at the bottom. (I have 6 teeth at the front) I don't use the glue to keep them in and have no problems really. Yes, sometimes food gets under them but a quick wipe or swish under a running tap sorts them out if it's too annoying when I'm eating. Apples and raw veg have to be cut into bite size pieces, anything with toffee in can be a bit messy lol. If anyone out there misses chewing gum then buy the "sugar free" gum and you'll be ok, I don't have any problems with that type of chewing gum. As for the taste of food I haven't noticed any changes there....taste is affected by nasal problems not just dental so if you're having problems it could be that your sinuses are blocked in your nasal passages.

Well I do have dentures and they have effected me in many ways. Some folks do just fine and others don't. My mom has never had a problem with hers at all. Me on the other hand, that is a different ball game.

I personally think it is the way the dentist goes about it as to how they fit and what you can and can't eat with them. Everybody that I have talked to that they were "fitted" for the teeth BEFORE your teeth are pulled out, the dentures fit good. The ones that were fitted AFTER your teeth were pulled is the ones that have problems. Mom does not have to use "glue" to hold hers in, but I do.

Mom can eat anything and everything that she wants. I can not do that. The one thing that I think all of us denture wears have to face is the fact that if you get anything under that plate (between your plate and the skin) it feels like a boulder in there. Even a grain of salt, pepper can hurt like crazy until you get it out.

From all of the answers I guess mine don't fit right at all. I have had so much trouble eating food and having it get under my dentures I rarely wear them now. I do better without them. I also had to use the paste to glue them in, and when that mixes with the food it is a mess to clean out. If you don't clean them good the stuff hardens and hurts your gums when you put them in and bite down. I've been thinking about going to another dentist to get a different set. These were fitted before they pulled out my teeth too.

Yes it does make a difference in eating til you get used to them. Some things like nuts are harder to get use to but you will. It all gets better with time and the better the fit the better it is. As for the taste of things, I thinl that's somewhat true even tho the dentist may tell you differently. Cheese never tasted the same to me after. But you'll get use to that too!

I have implants, they're GREAT just like my regular teeth, and they don't stain.. I couldn't eat with dentures, the food gets between them and the gums (I had them while waiting, for my implants to be made, over twenty plus years ago.

Lamb is quite expensive when compared to other meats in NZ. As a result I hardly eat it. I tend to eat more chicken or beef mince due to price. I love lamb but at the prices they are, I have no chance of getting sick of it as I don't eat it often. I know many in the same boat

Still have my own teeth. Had implants for cataracts in the early 90's and they still are working.
