I have recently been through a really difficult time in my life and the doctor has but me on the sick for stress and anxiety and a little depression that I am sure to come out of on my own but.. I just have no motivation...
I'm not working because of all this and can't sleep great.. but then in the morning I have no motivation to get up and face the day.. or wnating to get ready and go out to see friends which is something I normally love to do... I just have no confidence at the moment and a huge lack of motivation... As I say, My 'get up and go' has got up and gone...!

How do I slowly bring myself out of this and get more motivated again?

I know that feeling it's horrible, though I've never got to the extent of not wanting to get out of bed etc. I've found a change of scenery helps, breaking away from the 'norm' can really do the trick

Good luck, peace

Edit: People like 'chimp' f*ck me off bringing up their own woes to make you feel bad for not having problems that are as bad as theirs. Don't listen to her, you don't need a catalogue of problems to feel down in the dumps, there can be other underlying issues

I get motivation from racing. Look at the runnersworld website - events section and on there is a listing of races around the county. Pick a 10k (6 miles - a good challenge) race in about 6 weeks time to go for if there is one in your area. That will give you some motivation. Apart from that you have to imagine the end result - running 1.5 miles in 11 minutes or less

I'm sorry to hear of your difficult time. You are right in thinking that you can come out of it but it is hard going. The secret is to live one day (or even one hour) at a time, to remember to reward yourself for every little step forward and to not be hard on yourself for every time you don't succeed. Set yourself small goals which you know you can achieve rather than massive long term ones.

You may find it helpful to sit down at the end of the day to review what you have achieved and to make a short list - no more than five items - of things to do tomorrow. When you wake, choose just one item from the list - it might be the most pleasurable (to get you going) or the most irksome (to get it out of the way). You can allow yourself, perhaps, to postpone one item, so long as you do the others ... the exact details of the contract you make with yourself are up to you, though!

When it comes to getting through the day Sweety, you need to start faking it. During my worst bouts of depression I get up, hit the showers and ball my eyes out because I don't want to do anything but crawl in a hole and die. When I dry off my body I dry my tears, get dressed and fake it. If I need to let myself feel sorry for me again...it is another trip to the showers. After allowing my self to mourn my plight only privately the fake smile starts taking over. My longest bout lasted six weeks and I still praise the man who showed me that managing your anger or depression is a powerful tool.

Change the environment first. If it's a rented house, change the house. If u don't want to change the house, go to a friend's house and be a guest for few days. U may go to ur parents or ur sister. That can also help u to come out of this melodrama.

hun ive been there too and i know exactly how you feel. as you start to feel better in yourself your motivation will come back. i also distanced myself from friends because i felt worthless at the time. your confidence has been knocked because of what you have been through. in time you will start to get your motivation and confidence back but do it at your own pace and in time you will be back to your old self ((((hugs)))) xx

if you think your life is hard, try mine then. i suffer from deep depression and other health problems, but i have to get up every morning to look after my 3 disabled family members, 2 of which are in electric wheelchairs at 5am, plus i have a 8 month old baby too and a hyperactive 4 year old. im on the go until 11pm and im up and down during the night too.think of others and dragf yourself up each morning, go for a walk, find new interests to keep yourself occupied. im not having a go at you but others have a harder life but still have to carry on.

Maybe set yourself a goal - or something to strive toward everyday - could be anything from redecorating the living room to maybe learning another language or something - Sounds silly maybe but its something to do - And its quite satisfying to acheive something you set out to do.

Ive already cancelled christmas for you - so thats one less thing to worry about..

find something new and exciting that you like to do.

Lack of motivation can be born from repetition and monotony

do something to break away from your normal schedule.

good luck.
