If you can buy some glasses or small bowls or plain candle shades (made of plain glass - even not so fine glass should do - will tell u how to make them look fancy, lovely and treasured). Get some glass paints. (They are quite cheap and one set should suffice to paint some 50 pieces or more)
Now with the liner just make some shapes - squares, stars, spirals anything would do. Fill paint in them. You can also try a mix and match with just random colors spilled all over. Painting on cups is really easy.
These paints try pretty fast and if you do the same pattern it shouldn't take you more than 5 hrs in all to make some 30 presents. :) You are set!
I would love this gift myself as a holder on my desk, a candle shade or my coffee cup or just to show off that my friend/sister or whoever loves me so much that she made it by hand :)
Have a lovely Christmas!

By far the greatest gift is a homemade gift using pictures.
I found this easy to use product where you can actually make tons of different gifts for all sorts of people at all age groups because everyone loves memories and it's less than $30.
These gifts can be used daily. If my parents didn't get their yearly calendar, they'd be sad. They look at those calendars and the sweet faces of their grandchildren each and every day. In fact, last year my father was a little mad that I didn't include a picture of myself on the calendar. So you can bet that this year's calendar will have each and every person in our family within the pages.
This product has a lot of pre-made scrapbooks
a calendar
a deck of cards
flashcards
memory cards
and all you have to do is add your own pictures and print.
This year, in addition to the calendars, I am making all my nephews their own set of memory cards with pictures of everyone in our family playing together! I'm going to get them laminated so they can last through spills and baby's mouths, etc. I also have a friend who plays cribbage like crazy, so I'll probably make her a deck of cards.
It's so easy anyone can do it, even me :) And yes, this one product will help me make personalized gifts for so many people.
And the second the product arrives in your inbox is the same second you can start using it.

and you'll be on your way to unique gifts.
I hope this helps you!

If you can knit, make socks or something, if you can't. it doesn't take long to learn the basic stitch, and you can make scarves with big needles, it takes very little time. There are tons of ideas in Christmas magazines every year for those who are craft-handicapped as well as for more experienced crafters, spending a few dollars for one might save lots of money in the long run. Or just go to the library and look at them. As for your 6-yr old, shop resale stores and rumnmage sales, there are always good toys that people have no need for anymore when their kids out grow them. Unfortunately, most little kids don't really understand when there aren't many presents, and all their friends get them. I would make his the first priority, and maybe your Mom can help you. Talk to your son and explain to him that his real Christmas presents from you are going to come later, when Mommy has more money. He will probably understand.

I know a lot of people who bake stuff like fudge to give as gifts, but a gift could simply be enjoying the holiday together and doing something(free?) that you normally wouldn't get time to do. Everyone in my family works and/or goes to school so the best part of the holiday season is hanging out together. if nothing else and you have a snowy christmas, go sledding or have a snow ball fight.

look into making some hand made soaps for friends and family members. they do have kits at the stores, but I'm sure you can find some good guidelines of where to start online. you can make CDs of favorite songs or holiday songs, make covers of a picture of you and your son saying "Happy Holidays from the Anderson's!" (or whatever your last name is!)
you can make jar mixes of soups, or cookies with the instructions. (called Gifts in a Jar)
make ornaments
for your son- go to the used kids store and pick him up some toys, they have lots and they are in very good condition- he won't care. go to the used book store and get him some books, and I liked the certificate idea above about mommy and me time- what about one saying you'll be taking him for a fun day to go sledding with a friend and having the friend sleepover night. see if there are any inexpensive community plays going on you could take him to. ice skating, you can get him his own ice skates from the used sporting goods store.

For relatives do baking or homemade soup.
Your son
1. Give him 50% wanted items and 50% needed items. This way some of the expense of Christmas is what you would have bought him even if it wasn't Christmas. Cloths for example.
2. Give him Gift Certificates from yourself that he can redeem at anytime for
- read him a bedtime story
- let him stay up one hour past his bedtime
- bake him cookies of his choice
- let him play video games one more hour
- take him skating
-take him to the park
- movie night is his pick
- dinner is his choice
- play his favorite game with him
- have a friend sleepover

Depends what you like. I like craft stuff and once asked for paper LOL. Anyway, I'm a teen girl and I like animal things... I don't know what you like so I cant really say. What about a cool gadget or some nice clothes you've seen? My mum loves chocolate, teddies and cute little homemade things. You could make your mum her very own card:) Dad could get some CD's or something :)!

Dollar stores are a great source of materials for homemade ornaments and small Christmas-y containers for baked goods. Their scrapbooking sections can supply everything you need to make beautiful personalized cards.
