23 from each parent, for a total of 46.
Sorry, I had a dyslexic moment and transposed my 4 and 6. Has been edited to correct it. :)
I am a RN and a former biology and genetics tutor, so I DO know what I am talking about, lol!!!

A human has 46 chromosomes that are paired together. Half of the set came from the mother and half from the father.

It is 23 from each parent. A contribution of even 1 additional chromosone from ANY parent causes a chromosonal abornormality and usually results in miscarriage within the first trimester. Trisomy 18 is a disorder caused by just 1 extra chromosone.

Your wrong on both counts....it's 23 from him and 23 from you to total 46 from BOTH.
Unless someone carries chromosonal defects....then the baby can get an extra one here and there to contribute to Downs etc.
