The British teacher incident in Sudan is, of course, a scandal and we are all shocked. How can it happen?
We believe we are allowed things about ourselves that we consider as an offense if done by others. As an example, a Polish American won't like Polish jokes ... unless it is told by another Pole.
But even so, this is a feeble excuse for the incident. It is certain that the fact that she is a women (they should rather not speak nor work as viewed by the fundamentalist Muslims) and British (a former colonialist empire) didn't help. Last; you will always find people being insulted by anything. They are just waiting for any excuse to spread hate and fear. You'll find them in any country.
As for the Declaration of the Human Rights ... well, the world would be a better place if we all respected the United Nation. In 1945, my country and the US signed a treaty that obliged us to prevent any member country to military attack another member country. According to that, in March 2003, Norway should have gone to Iraq ... to defend Saddam Hussein from the US/British invasion. Yep, that what we signed!

Let us look at the matter broadly before I give the answer. The first thing I want to u to know is that there are many cultures in the world and each and everyone of them is different. They have different traditions/customs/religions etc, what you need to know is that you cant view every culture from the point of view of your own culture. In the muslim culture muslim boys are named muhammad due to a number of reasons and that is a different topic altogether. the reason why this act enraged muslims is that a teddy bear is a type of a depiction of a bear, which is an animal. So over there people see it as an insult to their prophet.
It is not because the teacher is white, there are thousands of white muslims and Islam was the first religion which erased all boundaries of race etc. Its not because the teacher is British otherwise ur embassy staff wudnt be there. Its not because she is a woman as if she was a man then I think he would have got more lashes. The school wudnt have been allowed to remain open all these years if the people thought it is teaching something against their religion. United Nations law serves as a benchmark for all law making bodies in each country. It does not override national law. Talking about international law how do u think countries in the west are following it? How many innocent people die in Iraq and Afghanistan each day, have u ever accounted for them? Did the USA and UK follow international law when illegally occupying independent states? Then u talk about human rights, did u not see how your soldiers violated them in the prisons of Iraq and Afghanistan? The people detained in the prison in cuba, even the UN has no access to them, do u even know how many have died there due to torcher and abuse? Follow the rules urselves first then tell the muslims how to follow theirs!

Actually I doubt if the locals really gave a wit about the matter until the local rabble rousing clergy started whipping them up into a frenzy, much the way Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do every time they see an opportunity to become the center of attention in local issues in the USA.

In Islam it is considered disrespectful to name anything but a human being after The Prophet.
Look to the Bible for "graven images".
Paddington Bear was not called St. Pancras Bear and that was years ago.
The unfortunate teacher was;
1] not briefed properly about the Sudan or
2] was stupid.
Most of the YA comments on this subject show an appalling lack of knowledge and understanding trying to impose 21st century western Christian mores upon the thinking of a medieval, uneducated society.

In the Sudan the people and Muslims have been
offended by a teacher of children who allowed children
to name a stuffed bear.
We in the UK are offended at your intolerance to a
lady of certain years being incarcerated in one of
your rat infested jails.
Do`s the prophet Mohammed preach utter itolerance
to inocent mistakes by foreign people who come to the
aid of the Sudanese people ?

The people seem to permit the Muslim extremist to flaunt their views and not stop the madness. Every time the is a chance to push their radical views on the world the Muslims do so. Time for the rest of the world to let them know we are tired of the inappropriate actions. Naturally the government permitted the demonstrations to draw attention away from their abuses. The media played right into their hands. The major powers of the world should not permit the abuse of their citizens. PERIOD :>)

They are just wanting to stir up hatred in the West. It is good excuse to use this as a reason. Someone has yet to prove to me that Islam is a peaceful religion.

This subject could continue forever as there is no logical reasoning to it. You might ask why all the parents of sons, named Mohammed who become criminals, aren't prosecuted too. Surely, if you carry the Prophets name you shouldn't insult it by behaving badly.

These people are not civilised. They are nothing short of barbarians. They want to use this woman as a scapegoat for all the things they don't like about the west. Crowds of men baying for her blood, their male offspring being brought up to act in the same way. Call this a civilised country? I don't think so.
