there is no way to tell them without hurting them. i would just be honest with them and as polite as possible about it....if you drag it out you are just going to make him fall in love you more and that will definitely be harder to end...

You have to tell them your reasons otherwise there is no point in leaving them. Whatever the reason is, they wil get hurt unless they don't mind.
