The recent writers strike has put everyone into re-runs, why is Hollywood so afraid to fire the striking workers and give the thousands of talented writers on the outside a chance to come in and show what they have?

The Writers are part of a UNION!
If (Hollywood) fired them, they could and would be sued for BILLIONS! That's why they won't fire the striking writers.
Sure, there are MANY talented writers who don't have jobs in Hollywood. But, they still would have to write what the PRODUCERS and EXECS tell them to write. And re-write. And re-write. So the talent they have (when strike is over) is as good as it's gonna get until the market (that's us) changes.
Meanwhile, there is hope!
There was a simular Writer's Strike in the early 80s. By the time it was over, all the writer's had re-juvenated with LOTS of GREAT original material, which is why the movies and tv shows of the early-mid to late mid 80s are now CLASSIC.
:)
So maybe, when it's all over, we'll get some more great original movies and then when we look back on the late 2000s in 20 years, we'll look back with the same fondness.
:)

You figure Hollywood would embrace some new writers. Have you seen any movies in the last 10 years? Lets face it-most films are garbage recreations of another story. There is no creativity in Hollywood and most movies and shows are horrible. This is apparently why reality tv contests like Dancing With The Stars and American Idol do so well-shows are for the most part un-entertaining. Look at saturday Night Live for example-the writing is terrible compared to where it was back in the days of Mike Myers, Dana carvey and Adam Sandler. Hollywood needs new-fres ideas. Let the overpaid non-talent writers strike.

Why is Hollywood afraid? Cause Hollywood is afraid of change, they follow a specific formula that is designed to make money and appeal to mass demographics anything outside the formula affects their way of life. It isn't until someone takes chance with an outside idea, normally independent films, and it does well that Hollywood will add it to the formula. Bruce Lee was turned down until he went back to Hong Kong and became a huge star, all of the sudden Hollywood wanted him back. Star Wars got passed on over and over, now its part of the culture, Quentin Tarintino was passed on all over the place until He made Resivor Dogs, now people can't wait for him to turn out his films.. As far as your main question goes. "Is Hollywood that hard up for talented writers? Or are they incapable of thinking outside of box?" The answer is both. I hope this strike will lead to others who normally get passed up on to get their shot, it may lead to some awesome material.

Hollywood studios are bound by the Hollywood Basic Agreement, under which they can only hire union members for productions.

The letter 'e'. Also, I have heard another way of asking this: What is the beginning of all eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end, and the end of every place. And I guess you could include 'the middle of forever', too, but I have never heard that one.
