Yes, babies born at 34 and 35 weeks do just fine. They might have to stay in a special care nursery for a week or two, just to make sure they are able to regulate their temperature, blood sugar, and are eating well, but other than that babies of this gestational age have very few issues at birth.
Good luck, and congrats in advance!

At 35 weeks the baby would be fine in the long run, but would most likely stay at the hospital for about a week. She would probably weight around 5 1/2 lbs. Premature babies stay in the hospital until they reach somewhere between 36-40 weeks gestation, depending on how they are doing. Even at 35 weeks you would have to worry about the lung development and respitory issues this winter as a result of her lungs not be mature yet.

Yeah more than likely she would be ok. She may have some respiratory issues...but I doubt that it would be too serious. Keep this in mind...if it was too early the Dr would try to stop your labor until it was safer for the baby....but they will let you go ahead and have a baby after 34 weeks...so it can't be too bad.
And don't worry...unless there's a true issue going on in there...the baby won't come until she's more than cooked thru...so if she comes early there's a reason for it...or she was just ready.
Good luck.
EDIT: my son was born a month early and DID NOT spend any extra time in the hospital or in NICU. He came home with me when I discharged. And as for Jami...you can try all the home remedies you want....that baby won't come until it's ready no matter what you do. In fact...be prepared because with first births...they usually come after the due date.

about 6months ago, a friend of mine had her baby at 29 weeks! she was incredibly small and stayed in the hospital for about 7ish weeks. Overall she was a healthy little girl, she just wasnt quite done developing a few things. To look at her now, youd never know. she is a happy, healthy 6 mo old little girl!

Most likely she would be healthy for the most part. She might have to be kept in the hospital a little longer because anything before 37 weeks is considered premature. Good luck & congratulations to you mommy! =]
