The recent writers strike has put everyone into re-runs, why is Hollywood so afraid to fire the striking workers and give the thousands of talented writers on the outside a chance to come in and show what they have?

The professional entertainment industry is one of the last vestiges of Union power. It's somewhat ironic that the major beneficiaries of collective bargaining make so much money. Every union will support the others when push comes to shove and only truly independent productions can really do anything, and it is actually almost impossible to put together a first rate production without union help.
