Go onto a website for FreeCycle in your area. These are a group of people that give away items they no longer use. The idea is that you also will give away your unwanted items. It's a freecycle program. Someone may have a bed or a cot for now that they are not using.
You could get an air mattress for the time being.
Talk to your local Sleep Country. When they deliver mattress they take old mattress away. Find out if they could donate one to you.

Sorry I can't help you. I live in Australia. But I just wanted to say, I am sorry for your loss and I pray that you will have many blessings with your family. It is a hard time, especially the first of everything. I just pray the Lord's comfort on you and your loved one.
Happy Christmas to you.

Your local Salvation Army, Goodwill, St. Vincent De Paul, or neighborhood churches should be able to help you out with that. They'll be listed in the phone book. Best of luck to you!

Almost every city has a "Freecycle" Yahoo discussion board. It where's you can post things you need and others in your area can donate it to you. Go to Yahoo main page and type the phrase "freecycle" followed by the name of your city or closest city.

if you cant afford one right now they usually have those rent-a-center places where you can rent furniture really cheap every month. then you can eventually buy it or just return it and buy a bed from somewhere else. Sorry to hear about your dad. good luck~

Go to your local thrift shop or used furniture store. You could probably find something inexpensive there.
