Eliminate or reduce the administrative burden placed on ISD's by municipal, state and federal regulations by 90%. Some of the administrative tasks are ludicrouse. Teachers become highly paid daysitters and office clerks. Teaching is secondary. Students are directed to perform "home work" during class hours leaving time for the teachers to comply with the administrative tasks. Principals are more concerned about "meeting the numbers" than supervising the teachers and system to make sure a quality education is being delivered. Administrators encourage "home schooling" because that's one less student for which to have accountability. There are so many "days off educating" that most schools barely attend 180 school days per year. That's almost as bad as the Congressional work schedule. A large percentage of "home schoolers" can be seen during the day at malls, shopping centers, fast food establishments and many other places besides staying home and studying. I have spoken to several parents who have home schoolers and they work 10 to 14 hours daily. Their level of education is sometimes a G.E.D. Eliminate the "no child shall be left behind". That's a crock. People DO get left behind in real life. Students arrive in the business world convinced "they will not be left behind". Many find themselves in just the opposite situation when employers do "fail" employees who are non-productive and do not add to the company's profitability - they call it GETTING FIRED. The system is corrupt and decaying from within itself. They whole system needs to be scratched and begin with a new clean slate. Teachers TEACH and administrators ADMINISTER and may the two responsibilities never leave their boundary.
