Folks, I gotta tell ya that by far the most insular group of folks can be found on Grosse Isle.
One it has an "island" mentality; two, it has a long held suspicion of outsiders; three, it has an ingrained stratified society of 'have' vs 'have nots'.
The generations of the elite familes on Grosse Isle trump any long-time families in Bloomfield or the Pointes. The snooty folks of Grosse Isle can trace their families back to the French. These familes inter-marry with surprising regularity and their internal feuds manifest themselves in civic policies, township services and how they view their connection to the larger metro region.
Sure the Pointes are snooty, as is Birmingham and Bloomfield, but their snootiness is limited to how much money you make. In Grosse Isle, the snootiness is based on bloodlines.
That's snootiness on steroids.

You wouldn't catch me in or around Detroit for any reason other than my life was in jeopardy or there were millions of dollars involved.
