HD TV's usually come with tuners so you can just plug an antenna into the TV and it can find broadcast signals.

A few years ago there were problems with antennas and HD receivers. It took a while to settle down so the tuners were sold separately for about $120 each. HDTV's were made without tuners so they could be upgraded separate from the TV. These TV's were called "HD Ready". They should have been called "Tuner-less".

HD ready requires a receiver to get the HD where as the HD TV has one built in already so all you have to do is order the HD service.
