The total memory was well under 700 MB (the limit), but it would only write 4,000 pictures. I need for it to hold about 4,200. A lot of those files were simply not added to the CD.

All depends on the size of the file. I use a 9 megapixel unit. My file sizes can range from around 2 megs to upwards of 15 megs if I use the "RAW" file setting. So in raw setting I can only get about 45 or so pics on the CD. I usually shoot at 5 megapixels so I would only get about 140 or so images on the CD.

You'll just have to do the math.

Depending on the size of the picture I think the 700MB CD-R could hold 4,200 but different pictures are different amounts of memory.

Your best bet would be looking for a DVD-R to hold all the pictures.

It all depends on the size of all the pictures. Assuming you have 4200 pictures that is under the 700Meg mark, then you should be ok. The trick I found is to break those pictures up into folders.
You could also try a different cd burning program, that might also help.
