The police wouldn't come to get you, even if it was illegal (unless you were distributing the music, even if you were giving it away for free). I've been using Limewire (an illegal program) for years, and nothing's happened. And also, it's not always illegal to download music from the internet. It's just illegal on P2P (filesharing) networks.
js142004 and Duckie don't know what they're talking about. I have an artist page, and if I choose to let users download my (copyrighted) music, then it's not illegal. Thing's like Limewire, Kazaa, etc., are only illegal because they are filesharing networks that can be used to get copyrighted software (in this case, music) for free. Duckie was also wrong about another thing. Duckie said that police aren't going to be looking for illegal downloaders, because they have more important things to be concerned with (not exact words). Obviously, Duckie doesn't have a TV, because the government has been cracking down on illegal downloaders, and making them pay MILLIONS of dollars when they are convicted. I agree that they have more important things to worry about, but i guess the government isn't strong enough to tackle the REAL problems in the world. (example: the government made a law in some metropolitan areas that pants must be kept on the waist; when the government should've been worrying about IMPORTANT THINGS, gee...idk...maybe like...THE WAR!!

It is not illegal to download content from the internet. It's illegal to download copyrighted content that the owner has not given permission for the free download. There are plenty of artists and songs that can be downloaded free because the artist who created the songs allowed it and some encourage it.
Only if the copyright holder hasn't given permission for free downloads does it become illegal and only if they pursue the matter (In which case is usually the RIAA, and yes. They pursue the matter). And more times than not, it's the Record Company who have the problem with it. Most artist don't care too much, they make most of their money from Concerts. So they encourage the spreading of their music.

Well.. it's illegal to download music from anywhere for free. But I really don't think the police are out there looking for illegal downloaders. That should be the least of their concerns with everything going on today..

It's a toss up. It "is" illegal to download or upload anything that is copy written. Will you get caught, yes, eventually. The RIAA is relentless. They already have a list of about 200,000 people that they will be contacting and suing in the future. Will they get to everybody, who knows. But they did get to two people that I know, and it cost those folks right around $3000 to settle.
So the choice, like in all aspects of life, is yours. You pay your money and you take your chance.

Nobody has found a way to download it directly yet, so you're going have to wait on that. The only way for now is to use programs that can "record" the streaming music.
